Vacancy

As a Medior Mechanic at Van Tunen you are responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs and modifications to various earth-moving machines, from excavators to bulldozers and dumpers. At the workshop in Beverwijk you carry out periodic maintenance and inspections and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults. This way you make defective or damaged machines technically ready again, so that they can be used immediately for the next job. You disassemble, repair and assemble machine parts and afterwards carry out extensive tests and calibrations to ensure optimal performance and safety.

This work takes place in the workshop in Beverwijk or, if you are interested, at various project locations throughout the country or abroad. You can also work on building, converting and modifying new or existing machines for specific projects. You'll work on developing and constructing hydraulic and electrical installations and think about how modifications can be carried out in a better structural manner. Machines that arrive at the workshop 'empty' can be adapted by, for example, making special supports, installing GPS systems or constructing additional mountings.

At the workshop, you will work in a team of driven Mechanics, each with their own specialty, who support each other where necessary. On large projects, you work in a team of approximately six Mechanics led by a Project Manager, where the tasks are divided among the Machanics and are largely carried out independently by each of them. You will also work with the Workshop Manager to discuss the progress of the jobs and, for example, determine which materials still need to be arranged.

If you have a strong bond with technology, find earth-moving machines interesting, enjoy working in a team on the maintenance of large machines and can deal well with short deadlines, then this is the job for you.

Working week

Medior Mechanic

On a good working day there is a pleasant but also productive atmosphere in the workshop, with constructive cooperation on a large machine. It is very satisfying when a complex hydraulic modification or a customer-specific adjustment is successfully completed and shows a positive test result.

On a less pleasant working day, you carry out work that you are less comfortable with. In addition, it can be frustrating when crucial parts are out of stock in the warehouse, causing work to come to a temporary standstill.

Firsthand experience

An earth-moving machine returns to the workshop with a fault, such as a sensor that is not working properly. What do you do?

First you start by reading and measuring the defective sensor to diagnose the exact cause of the malfunction. You then determine whether the problem actually lies in the sensor itself or whether there is an underlying fault. If you conclude that the sensor is defective, you order the correct replacement part directly from the internal warehouse. After receiving the part, you install the new sensor and carry out the necessary calibrations and adjustments to the installation. Finally, you subject the machine to an extensive operational test to check whether the defect has been completely resolved.

Growth

Mandatory training and certifications are facilitated by Van Tunen and are included in the training matrix. Other development and in-depth training courses aimed at professional growth (for example technology, machine training, administrative or commercial skills), digital skills and personal development and collaboration can also be facilitated. We provide the required training as standard and we are also always working on developing people. We recently started to breathe life into VT Academy, but this is still in its infancy.
